The Spartanburg High School Band gives a number of performances throughout the year. The marching band performs at all football games, several selected festivals and local community parades. The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble give several concerts each year presenting a wide variety of music for winds and percussion. All instrumental students are encouraged to participate in state solo and ensemble festivals, and qualified students are encouraged to audition for All-State Band and Western Region Band. The Jazz Ensemble rehearses during 7th period and periodically after school. Selected students learn to play in a variety of styles such as swing, blues and rock. Improvisational skills are developed in the most highly motivated students.
Marching band rehearsals begin in August prior to the opening of school. Interested students are invited to call the band office (room 108E, phone 594-4410, ext. 7249) for further information.
