Viking Academy

Aligned with current South Carolina school reform initiatives, the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) and High Schools That Work (HSTW), the Viking Academy brings together best practices in a comprehensive, research based program for Spartanburg High School students. The Academy provides alternative instruction, academic and cultural enrichment, and supportive services to students in a "school within a school" setting. The environment provides a smaller learning community that is tailored to each student's unique needs. A variety of instructional techniques are employed to ensure that the curriculum and standards are vigorous and that delivery methods target multiple learning styles. State-of-the art technology, including "smart" classrooms, mobile wireless labs and a global classroom, allow for the seamless integration of technology across all curriculum areas.

The Academy sponsors a dual credit program with local colleges to provide senior students an opportunity to earn college credits. Social and economic issues are addressed by a full-time social worker and career development facilitator. Paid work experience, employment training, college admission counseling and general counseling are offered in individual and group settings. Students experience high school as a caring environment designed to accelerate learning and form a meaningful bridge to post-secondary education and career development.
